L.A. Zoo's Spider City to Close
Contact: Jason Jacobs Los Angeles Zoo’s Spider City is due to close on April 27, 2008. Make sure you take advantage of your last chance to see these small and wondrous creepy crawlers! The exhibit features over 25 species of spiders from around the world. The interactive comic book themed world was created by Outhouse Exhibit Services. The exhibit first opened on May 3, 2007 and has had over 650,000 visitors since then. WHAT: Spider City Closing Day (April 27, 2008) In this completely captive experience, visitors walk down a long winding corridor featuring vibrant comic-themed graphics, a dark Los Angeles cityscape and eerie sound effects. The exhibit highlights specimens such as the black widow, the brown recluse and various types of tarantulas. In addition, you can see the amazing Goliath bird eating spider, which can boast a leg span up to 11 inches! During their daring venture, visitors enter the venom lab where they learn about the spiders’ mysterious superpowers and hunting techniques as well as explore the myths and realities of spiders’ deadly venom. Other segments include, “Natural History” and “Habitat.” The various sections of Spider City educate people about the chilling details of these misunderstood arachnids. ### The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is located in Griffith Park at the junction of the Ventura (134) and Golden State (5) freeways. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 2 to 12. The Zoo is open from 10am to 5pm daily. For general information, call 323/644-4200. |
