Reindeer at the L.A. Zoo

Weekend Holiday Activities Include Photo Ops with Santa, Reindeer Keeper Talks, Animal Enrichment, Crafts, and More

Reindeer Romp, the Los Angeles Zoo’s beloved daytime holiday celebration, is happening daily until Sunday, January 6, 2019, giving Angelenos the rare opportunity to see real reindeer this season at its “Reindeer Village” habitat. While visiting the “Reindeer Village” on weekends, guests can learn more about the herd from expert reindeer keepers at 11am and 2 pm, as well as get crafty at the craft station designing custom antlers. Stop by Santa Claus’s charming North Pole outpost for photos on December 15-16 and 22-23, from 11 am to 3 pm, with a variety of photo packages available for an additional fee. The weekend festivities continue with the animals receiving “presents” of their own at 11 am. While festive, these treats serve an important role, promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of the animals by encouraging natural behaviors. The schedule is as follows:

December 15: Bornean orangutans
December 16: Red river hogs
December 22: Giant river otters at Rainforest of the Americas
December 23: Snow leopards
December 29: Lions
December 30: Giant river otters at Rainforest of the Americas
January 5: Sumatran tigers
January 6: Sichuan takins

Guests can also enjoy a special holiday edition of its World of Birds Show daily (except Tuesdays) at 12:00 and 2:30 pm through January 6. Among the species spotlighted in this dazzling free-flight display of natural behaviors are Cape vultures, crowned cranes, and blue-throated macaws. *Schedule subject to change.

All Reindeer Romp activities, except Santa photos, are free with paid Zoo admission. Also included with paid Zoo admission are daily close-up animal encounters, intriguing shows, holiday crafts , talks and guided experiences, training demonstrations, and more.
