L.A. Zoo Lights at the Los Angeles Zoo has received top 10 honors in the 2018 USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel awards. Its panel of experts selected 20 national zoos for consideration and the L.A. Zoo placed ninth in the nation. The L.A. Zoo received honors in 2015 and 2016 – and nominated again for 2017 – making it Los Angeles’ holiday “must” destination under the stars.

L.A. Zoo Lights is a self-guided 60- to 90-minute walking tour through a large area of the Zoo filled with creative light displays, seasonal cheer, and festive food and drinks available for purchase. During the month of December, L.A. Zoo Lights features live performances including glow dancers and stilt walkers nightly, DJs on select Friday evenings, and a live karaoke band on Sunday evenings, and, from now until Sunday, December 30, a live ice sculpture artist will create frozen masterpieces from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. On December 31, the Zoo hosts a Family New Year’s Eve party for all ages to enjoy. (Special advance online ticket purchase required.) This unique end-of-year celebration includes express entry to L.A. Zoo Lights; a dinner buffet, including soft drinks and dessert; a carousel ride; games; DJ dance party; and live broadcast of the Times Square ball drop. Toast to the New Year with complimentary champagne for adults (21+) and sparkling apple cider for kids. Cash bar available. Family New Year’s Eve guests are welcome to enjoy L.A. Zoo Lights from 6 pm until closing. Tickets are $69 for adults (13+) and $45 for children (2-12), or $64 and $40 for Zoo (GLAZA) members. L.A. Zoo Lights, an award-winning, brilliant display of lights and animation, features 500,000+ LED lights, a disco-ball forest, a glittering twinkle tunnel, and stunning 3-D animated projections. Glowing animals “come to life” throughout the grounds, including leaping frogs, somersaulting meerkats, strutting flamingos, swinging monkeys, and stained-glass animals – including the endangered California condor, Masai giraffe, Asian elephant, and more – roam a glowing savanna. New this year, the L.A. Zoo Lights experience includes picturesque Elephant Circle, which is transformed into a kaleidoscopic savanna. The popular Twinkle Tunnel has been expanded and features cascading swirls of light and a spectacular LED light show.

L.A. Zoo Lights is happening through Sunday, January 6, 2019 (except December 24/25) from 6-10 p.m.

Nightly admission to L.A. Zoo Lights ranges from $14.95 to $21.95 for adults (13+) and $11.95 to $16.95 for children (2-12). Children under age 2 are free.
