Zoo Update from GLAZA president Tom Jacobson – November 2022

Since 2014 GLAZA and the Los Angeles Zoo have delighted our members and the people of Los Angeles with a celebration of light during the longest nights of the year. We are thrilled that L.A. Zoo Lights is returning as L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow from November 18, 2022 through January 22, 2023. “L.A.’s brightest winter tradition” will be all new in 2022—reimagined as a spectacular wonderland of glowing lanterns depicting animals and plants, a celebration of light and nature all of us can enjoy together.

This new approach for L.A. Zoo Lights is inspired by our mission of saving wildlife and connecting communities with nature. Highlights include light displays of the California condor, peninsular pronghorn, and southern mountain yellow-legged frog—endangered species that the Zoo is saving from extinction. In addition to animal and botanical wonders, the experience also features immersive walk-through displays; spectacular, Instagram-worthy photo ops; and, of course, plenty of churros and hot chocolate available for purchase.

Doors open in just two days, and we are proud to offer member discounts again this season, so get your tickets now!

Take note as you reserve your space, the time frame for L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow will be extended, but the total number of nights (50) will remain the same as in years past. In addition to being closed on November 24 (Thanksgiving Day), December 24 (Christmas Eve), and December 25 (Christmas Day), L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow will be closed most Monday and Tuesday nights to allow both staff and animals to get some rest from the evening activities.

With a longer engagement through Lunar New Year this year, we hope you, your friends, and your families will return again and again to revel in the wide variety of new experiences!

And, speaking of sharing the love, GLAZA’s events team is booking holiday celebrations now for the many families, organizations, and corporations that traditionally take the opportunity to gather during L.A. Zoo Lights. Please email events@lazoo.org to reserve an evening for your corporate or family party illuminated by Animals Aglow.

We look forward to celebrating the season and the Zoo’s mission with you against the backdrop of an L.A. Zoo Lights like you’ve never seen before!
