Although we are currently accepting applications, due to the temporary closure, we do not have dates for our next training session. Candidates who have submitted applications will be informed of a training date once the Zoo has reopened and we are ready to begin accepting new volunteers again. We hope to have your support in the future.
Join the fun at the Los Angeles Zoo!
Volunteers play a vital role in fulfilling the Zoo’s mission of “Nurturing Wildlife and Enriching the Human Experience,” from helping with office work to assisting our animal keepers.
If you have a love for our natural world, an interest in spending time with visitors of all ages, and are able to complete the required training, we invite you to join this dedicated team. There are several ways in which you can volunteer your time, including becoming a docent, serving as a general volunteer, or starting out as a student volunteer.
All volunteers must submit an application through our website or U.S. mail, which will be reviewed by our Volunteer Department staff. Depending on the needs of the Zoo at the time, and/or your field of interest and experience, you may be contacted for an interview. Please note, there is limited space in our programs. Once accepted into the program, applicants will receive an orientation and appropriate training for specific assignments or programs. You will also be required to provide a negative tuberculosis test (taken within three months of your submission) and successfully complete a fingerprint background check.
